Nine people have been killed and dozens injured after an assailant opened fire at a school in western Canada, in one of the deadliest mass shootings in the country's history.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he is "devastated" after the fatal school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, calling the deaths and injuries "horrific acts of violence".
