Billions of dollars in unclaimed property and cash is waiting to be claimed by Americans. According to American Fund Recovery, a nationwide third-party locator agency that assists clients in reuniting with lost assets, more than $70 billion in unclaimed property -- including cash, checks, deposits and dividends -- is currently being held by states nationwide, affecting about one in seven Americans, or roughly 33 million people.
